2024 GGW DAY: Emir Of Dass Warns Against Indiscriminate Cutting Of Trees

The Emir of Dass Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman II has warned Nigerians to resist any attempt for indiscriminate cutting of trees as part of measures to mitigate the effect of climate change within various communities,
The emir made the statement shortly after a symbolic planting of trees, on Thursday in commemoration of 2024 Great Green Wall Day, held in Dass Emirate Council of Bauchi state
The monarch who received the representative of the great green wall an agency for the control of desertification and protection of environment in his palace, explained that people of his community has always been admonished to contribute in the fights against desertification, and other environmental problems affecting the society.
Bilyaminu Othman added that, felling of trees for charcoal production is a source of concern that always confronted the authority by the day
"Protecting environment is part of our role to continue to urge our people to plant a tree and to stop felling them in essence another way of protecting our environment against dessert encroachment and this is going to be history particular we the leaders of our various communities,
"we will like to make sure that each and every personality has oblige to plant a tree and raise it as making every efforts to curtail the deforestation"
The agency extended the planting of trees to one of the primary schools of the benefiting communities in Yelwa area, as well as the state government house premises as part of their contribution in curtailing any form of environmental challenges.
While in an interview with the permanent secretary government house Bauchi Jibrin Yakubu has appreciated the gesture by the great green wall GGW agency, while stressing the important of planting trees for sustainable growth and development.
"I know another good things has come to the state towards uplifting the livelihood of our citizens, every body knows clean environment is a happy environment and is good for living things, human beings inclusive,"
"Today the world over we are fighting the ruminants of deforestation, desertification, environmental degradation, so greening the environment will go along way in enhancing our livelihood"
Moreso, the great green wall GGW state focal Hajiya Hadiza Mohammed during the visit she expressed concern towards mitigating the menace of felling trees without replacement them to all benefiting communities, especially ministries, departments, and agencies of government and others institutions
However, the agency called on the benefiting communities to minimize the uses of charcoal within their domain.
So also in an effort to reduce the danger associated with using charcoal in various homes, the agency introduced the CGN cooking gas cylinder for domestic usage as part the federal government effort to ensure safer and alternative for cooking as well.
Highlights of the 2024 great green wall (GGW) celebration was planting of improve economic trees to various ministries, departments and agencies MDAs of Bauchi state government, religious and traditional institutions as well.
