President Bola Tinubu announced the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development, the news emerged as the President inaugurated the Renewed Hope Livestock Reform Implementation Committee at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday, aimed at resolving persistent farmers-herders conflicts.
President Tinubu commander in chief will chair the committee, a former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Attahiru Jega, is the deputy chairman.
Tinubu said the Federal Government is fully prepared to cover the cost of acquiring the land to ensure the co-existence between herders and farmers.
He expressed that the committee would work with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to come up with lasting solutions to the age-long crisis between farmers and herders, while ensuring the security and economic well-being of all Nigerians.
The previous committee, chaired by the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, gave the President 21 recommendations, including the creation of Ministry of Livestock Resources.
However, the minister for the new ministry is expected to be announced soon.
