In a thrilling display of sportsmanship and determination, Bauchi State has emerged as a force to be reckoned with in the sports arena, winning an impressive five gold and eight silver medals at the just concluded National Youths Games zonal elimination 2024 held at Joly Nyami Stadium Jalingo the capital city of Taraba State.
The 222 contingents who represented Bauchi State in the competition have completed the event without a single casualty, a testament to their dedication and hard work. This remarkable achievement is a reflection of the state's commitment to developing its youth through sports.
Bauchi State secured the second position behind Adamawa, earning the right to represent the North East at the National festival in Asaba Delta state .This achievement is a milestone for the state, marking a significant improvement in its sports development program.
The state participated in about 13 sports, including basketball, volleyball, beach volleyball, hockey, cricket, and rugby, with notable achievements in:
- Rugby Male and Female: Automatic qualification
- Volleyball Female: Automatic qualification
- Cricket Male and Female: Automatic qualification.
Although the state faced disqualification in football, handball male, and baseball, the overall performance was commendable.
This setback did not deter the team, as they rallied to achieve impressive results in other sports.
Usman Yusuf, the State Director of Sports, attributed the success to the support of Governor Senator Bala Abdulƙadir Muhammad and the efforts of Commissioner of Youth and Sports Salis Gamawa in driving positive changes in sports development in Bauchi.
The State Director of Sports expressed gratitude to the people of Bauchi State for their unwavering support and sought divine guidance for the team's continued success.
With this impressive performance, Team Bauchi is poised to make its mark at the National festival in Delta.
