ANNUAL FESTIVAL: Police Ban 2024 Zaar Cultural Festival, Citing Court Order

Bauchi State Police command has announced that the annual Zaar cultural festival slated for 2nd November 2024 has been suspended following court order issued on October 30th 2024 

The announcement has confirmed by the command through a press release signed by the public relations officer PPRO Ahmed Wakil onbehalf of the state commissioner of Police Auwal Muhammed Musa made available to journalists on Thursday 

The statement further confirmed that the police assured citizens of their protection of lives and property of all, while showing their concern towards supporting cultural festival of all kind devoid of conflict, resulting in attacks of individual, disruption of public order 

The statement continue, "In light of the High Court’s decision, the Bauchi State Police Command would like to inform the public that the 2024 Zaar Festival, originally scheduled for November 2, 2024, has been suspended following a court restraining order issued on October 30, 2024. This decision follows an earlier suspension announced on September 27, 2024.

Historically, "the Zaar Festival has been associated with incidents of conflict, resulting in attacks on individuals, damage to property, and disruption of public order. Consequently, the organizers of the festival, along with any individuals involved, are prohibited from conducting any related processions in Tafawa Balewa, Bogoro Local Government Area, or any other location, until a definitive court ruling is rendered

The command further stated, values the cultural significance of such festivals and remains committed to facilitating opportunities for celebration that does not compromise public safety. We are actively engaging with all stakeholders to explore alternative ways to honour these traditions constructively"

The Police command emphasizes the importance of adhering to this court order and ensuring peace in the community. The Command encourage parents, guardians, and community leaders to guide their wards towards positive engagement and discourage any actions that could lead to unrest.

The command appreciate the public’s cooperation and understanding as they prioritize the safety and well-being of the entire citizens.
