Tragic Incident Claims Life of Taraba Governor’s Sister

Atsi Kefas, a 44 year-old sister of Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, has tragically lost her life following an accidental gun discharge at Wukari--Kante road during an exchange of fire by the suspected kidnappers attacking the convoy with security personnel on their way out of the town recently.
According to the sources the tragic incident occured on the 5th of December 2024, where she was admitted at federal medical center Wukari and later transfered to a private hospital in Abuja where she give up, while receiving medical attention
Earlier reports indicate that, the convoy of Mrs. Jummai Kefas, the governor’s mother, came under fire from unknown gunmen believed to be targeting her vehicle. Amidst chaos by a security operatives in the convoy where he accidentally discharged his weapon, striking Atsi, who was seated beside Mrs. Kefas.
Atsi then was immediately rushed to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Wukari, where her condition was initially stabilized, but she was later transferred to a hospital in Abuja for specialized care.
Despite efforts by the medical personnel, she succumbed to her injuries in the early hours of December 10th
Sources indicate that the attackers may have been attempting to kidnap Mrs. Kefas, prompting an exchange of gunfire with the security team.
The Taraba State government has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident or Atsi Kefas’s passing.
According to sources this tragedy highlights the ongoing insecurity challenges in the region and beyond, adding a personal dimension to the widespread of insecurity faced by many in the state.
This sorrowful event has left the governor’s family and the state in mourning, with many reflections on the urgent need for improved security measures across Taraba and beyond.
