Journalists Task on Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health

Journalists in Bauchi state have been tasked to promote adolescent sexual reproductive health through constant news reportage and programs, as part of effort to address issues concerning sanitary pad among vulnerable members of the society.

This was part of the discussion during a media engagement held at the NUJ Secretariat Bauchi on recently.

The organizers of the ASPIRE Project, Funded by Global Affairs Canada, through Plan International Nigeria, Women Child Youth Health and Education Initiative, Leadtots Development Initiative, as implementing partners, says media has a vital role to play while championing the course of women and girls at public schools and within the communities as a whole.

The participants cut across Print, Broadcast as well as online news medium who are carefully selected to be part of the movement in addressing some the challenges associated with sexual reproductive health in the state.

While presenting an overview plan aspire advocacy project at the engagement Kamal Ali Bello, encourages the journalists to increase more awareness through different media organizations 

He maintaining that information dissemination is key to achieve success in all ramifications, therefore the media can go along way in shaping people's thoughts about what is expected of them at all times.

Nicholas Oshojah Afeso, who centered on establishment of media advocacy working group in Bauchi during his presentation, acknowledging that the significant of coming together for common objectives cannot be over emphasized, as he drew the attention of the media practitioners to see the movement as part of sacrifice and commitment towards uplifting women and vulnerable among people in various communities in Bauchi state.

While on the part of the media some journalists added their voice on already owned established responsibility as watchdog of the society, affirmed that they would not relent on issues associated with Adolescent Sexual Representative Health ASRH.

The state NUJ Chairman Umar Sai'du  added that all hands must be on deck to change the narratives in Bauchi, particularly with reference to adolescent girls is public schools and within the entire communities so as to accelerate action by key stakeholders as well as policy makers throughout the state.

Meanwhile, the two facilitators of the programme, both explained that the aim of the project is to improve access to sexual and reproductive health education for adolescent girls, young women and vulnerable groups in Bauchi state.

Also highlighted some of the two NGOs  Development Initiative activities which include, strengthening sick-Bays in schools, providing Pad Banks for Formal and non-Formal schools, establishing
disposable pad incubation centers in the three Senatorial district in the state.
