The Taraba State Government has expressed profound shock and grief over the sudden passing of Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Gabriel Okoye, the immediate past commanding officer of the 20 Battalion, Serti.
In an official condolence letter issued on behalf of Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas, the state extended its heartfelt sympathies to the late officer’s immediate family and the top hierarchy of the Nigerian Army.
The letter, signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Barrister Gebon Timothy Katafs, was addressed to Brigadier General Emeka Akaliro, Commander of 6 Brigade/Operation Wildstroke in Jalingo, and to the deceased officer’s family.
Governor Kefas described the late Lt. Col. Okoye as a distinguished and exceptional military officer who served the nation with unalloyed dedication, courage, and professionalism.
“Throughout his tenure as commanding officer of the 20 Battalion, he demonstrated exemplary leadership and commitment to the maintenance of peace, security, and stability within Taraba State and beyond,” the statement read.
The government noted that while words cannot adequately heal the pain of such an irreparable loss, solace lies in the fact that the commander lived a life defined by honor, sacrifice, and selfless service to humanity and his fatherland.
The state government prayed to Almighty God to grant the Nigerian Army and the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the painful loss, and wished the departed soul eternal rest.
