The Gombe State Police Command has intensified enforcement of traffic laws and road safety regulations across the state as part of efforts to curb traffic violations and improve public safety.
The move, according to the Command, is in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the Command said the renewed enforcement became necessary due to the increasing disregard for traffic rules, which has contributed to traffic congestion, obstruction of free movement, road crashes, and the avoidable loss of lives and property.
The statement warned that all traffic offenders, including serving security personnel, would be sanctioned in accordance with the law.
It added that vehicles found violating traffic regulations would be impounded, while offenders could face prosecution where necessary.
To ensure effective implementation, all officers and personnel of the Gombe State Police Command have been directed to maintain the highest standards of discipline and professionalism, stressing that no officer is exempt from complying with traffic laws.
The Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, called on motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle and motorcycle operators, as well as other road users, to obey traffic regulations, respect road signs, avoid dangerous driving, and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
