Bauchi Police Command Launches Statewide Crackdown on Vehicles with Covered Number Plates
By Adamu IMAM, Bauchi
The Bauchi State Police Command will commence a statewide enforcement operation today, Monday, 15th June 2026, against vehicles with covered, defaced, unauthorised, or no registration number plates.
This was disclosed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Nafi’u Habibu, in a press release issued on Sunday.
According to the state Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, the operation is in line with directives from the 24th Indigenous Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
The commissioner directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers across the 20 LGAs to ensure effective compliance within their areas of responsibility. He ordered that any vehicle found in violation should be promptly impounded and subjected to proper investigation in accordance with existing laws.
CP Aliyu urged Bauchi residents to note that the operation is not intended to harass law-abiding citizens but is a targeted security strategy. He explained that obscured or missing number plates remain a key tool used by criminal elements to evade detection, commit crimes, and disappear untraced. The exercise will therefore enhance police capacity to identify vehicles, track suspects, and respond swiftly to security incidents across the state.
Consequently, all motorists, commercial drivers, fleet owners, and vehicle owners are advised to ensure their vehicles display valid, official, and clearly visible registration plates at all times. Drivers are also urged to keep all vehicle documents current and available for inspection.
CP Aliyu maintained that the command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property, and that public cooperation is critical to the success of the operation. The command appreciates the understanding and support of Bauchi residents as it works to sustain a safer state.
“Security is everyone’s business,” he said. Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious vehicles, movements, or activities to the nearest police station or through the emergency line: 08151849417.
