The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Bauchi State has received an additional 11,000 defectors from other political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections. This is in addition to the 150,000 members who earlier defected to the party across the state.
The State Chairman of the APC, Alhaji Hassan Mohammed Tilde, disclosed this on Saturday while addressing a mammoth crowd at the Azare Township Stadium during a major reception for the defectors.
Tilde said the party continues to attract new members and that the focus of the people of Bauchi, particularly the electorate, is now on the APC as the party to beat in the forthcoming elections.
“Without any doubt, the APC is the party to reckon with ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he said.
The chairman listed some of the prominent defectors received at the event to include Yusuf Mohammed Bako, who previously belonged to the PDP and APM and was also a candidate of the ADC, and Hassana Arkila who moved from APM to APC.
He also mentioned Hajiya Zainab Baban Takko, who defected from the PRP to the APC, along with other notable candidates from different parties. He noted that these new entrants were not part of the earlier announced 150,000 defectors.
Earlier, the APC gubernatorial running mate, Dr. Farouk Mustapha, presented the list of defectors in a voluminous document to the state leader of the party, Professor Mohammed Ali Pate, Minister of Health, for onward transmission to the National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe at the party’s national headquarters.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Mustapha described joining the APC as “a homecoming.”
“I went on a borrowed stint to work for them, just like professional footballers move from one team to another. But now I am back,” he said.
He expressed confidence that with the growing momentum, the APC would win all elective positions in the 2027 general elections, by the grace of God.
