The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged the public to disregard results circulating on social media following its nationwide primary elections, insisting that only the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) is authorised to announce the outcome.
In a statement issued on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, said the results of the primaries conducted on May 28 and 29 remained with the NEC and had not been officially released.
“The general public is hereby urged to disregard the various results circulating on social media as the outcome of the nationwide primaries conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress,” the statement said.
The party announced that a meeting of its National Executive Council had been convened on the directive of its National Leader, Distinguished Senator Seriake Dickson.
According to the statement, NEC members are expected in Abuja for a pre-NEC meeting on June 2, while the main council meeting will hold on June 3.
The party said the official list of candidates emerging from the primaries would be made public after it concludes internal processes and submits the names of its flag bearers to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The clarification comes amid growing speculation and unverified claims online over the outcome of the party’s primaries ahead of future elections.
