The Lifeline Initiative for Widows Empowerment and Economic Development (LIWEED) has called on women and adolescents in Tsakanin Bayara community, Bauchi State, to speak out and report cases of gender-based violence (GBV), child abuse and child labour.
The organisation made the call during a sensitisation programme held in the community on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, as part of efforts to increase awareness of violence and strengthen community-level responses to abuse.
Speaking during the programme, LIWEED State Team Lead, Hajia Binta Adamu, identified different forms and causes of GBV, explaining that victims and community members should not remain silent when cases occur.
She explained how GBV affects survivors and the wider community, while stressing the importance of reporting cases through appropriate channels.
Adamu also urged participants to support survivors rather than stigmatise or blame them, noting that survivors require protection, care and access to appropriate services.
She further sensitised the participants on the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law and the penalties applicable to perpetrators of violence.
Earlier, the Executive Director of LIWEED, Amb. Dr. Grace Maikudi, welcomed participants and urged them to pay attention to the programme and use the knowledge acquired to protect themselves and others.
The participants asked questions during the session and expressed appreciation to LIWEED, promising to share the information with other women and adolescents in their communities.
