The Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL) on Friday held a strategic meeting with representatives of the Voices Unchained Trafficking Survivor Initiative to explore collaboration on efforts to combat human trafficking and promote safe and regular migration in Nigeria.
The meeting, held at the NACTAL National Secretariat in Abuja, focused on strengthening survivor participation in anti-trafficking advocacy, prevention and response initiatives.
NACTAL National Secretary and Head of Programmes, Osita Osemene, received the delegation and outlined the network’s mandate, organisational structure and ongoing efforts to enhance the role of survivors in shaping policies and programmes aimed at addressing human trafficking.
Representatives of the Voices Unchained Trafficking Survivor Initiative, a survivor-led organisation, said their work centres on promoting safe and regular migration, raising awareness of the risks associated with human trafficking, supporting the reintegration of returnees and empowering survivors through advocacy, rehabilitation and community engagement.
They said incorporating the experiences of trafficking survivors into awareness campaigns and community outreach could help prevent trafficking and provide support to victims.
Osemene said NACTAL was committed to supporting the institutional development of the survivor-led organisation through mentorship and capacity-building initiatives. He stressed the need for strong leadership, credible institutional systems and strategic partnerships to ensure the group’s long-term sustainability and effectiveness.
Both organisations agreed to continue discussions aimed at strengthening collaboration to support survivor-led initiatives and enhance efforts to combat human trafficking while promoting safe and regular migration across Nigeria.
