GOMBE — The District Head of Bojude in Kwami Local Government Area of Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim Dan Buram, has called on farmers and herders to embrace peaceful coexistence to promote sustainable development in the area.
The traditional ruler made the appeal during a stakeholders’ meeting with farmers and herders aimed at ending recurring clashes between the two groups in his domain.
Alhaji Dan Buram noted that Bojude has a vast grazing reserve capable of accommodating herders alongside farming activities.
He urged both parties to maintain peace, respect one another’s rights, and promptly report the arrival of new herders to the appropriate authorities to enhance security and prevent conflict.
He also commended the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for creating a conducive atmosphere that has supported peace and development in the area.
Speaking at the meeting, the Chairman of Kwami West Local Development Council, Engineer Sa’ad Abdulmumini, said he had recently engaged herders on the need to avoid actions capable of tarnishing their image and that of their religion.
He praised the efforts of security agencies for their commitment to maintaining law and order and urged residents to continue providing credible information to enable them to discharge their responsibilities effectively.
Also speaking, the Gombe State Chairman of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Fulani Socio-Cultural Association of Nigeria, Dr. Ardo Chindo Abubakar, advised both farmers and herders to obey the law and comply with government policies and regulations to ensure lasting peace.
He further encouraged herders to register for the National Identification Number, NIN, to enable them to benefit from government intervention programmes.
The Divisional Police Officer of Bojude Division, CSP Abdullahi Mu’azu, urged farmers and herders to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, stressing that peace, unity, and mutual understanding remain the foundation for meaningful development.
He described both groups as partners whose livelihoods depend on one another.
In separate goodwill messages, the Chairman of the Izala Council of Ulama, Kwami West, Ustaz Hassan Yakubu Makosi, and Ardo Idris Gadam pledged their continued support for government policies and initiatives aimed at promoting peace.
They also urged residents to remain law-abiding and sustain the spirit of peaceful coexistence for the overall development of Bojude and its surrounding communities.
