JALINGO — Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has given the strongest indication yet that APC National Deputy Women Leader, Zainab Ibrahim, could emerge as his running mate in the 2027 governorship election.
Kefas dropped the hint on Friday at the TY Danjuma House in Jalingo during a reception for APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who was in the state to mark his 58th birthday.
During the protocol segment of the event, the governor introduced Ibrahim as the “future deputy governor of Taraba.” Yilwatda echoed the remark, describing her as the “incoming deputy governor.”
The statement has sparked fresh political discussions in the state over the APC’s 2027 ticket.
In his address, Kefas commended the APC leadership for rolling out a statewide free medical outreach in honour of the chairman’s birthday. He said medical teams had carried out treatments and surgeries across communities in the past few days.
“The feedback from Tarabans has been very encouraging,” he said.
“We in Taraba are ready to reciprocate what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done for us.
“The President’s approval of an Army division for Taraba will go a long way in stabilising the state. For us in APC here, we are not fighting anyone. Others are only joining us in the contest.”
Earlier, Yilwatda said he chose Taraba for his birthday to highlight the party’s focus on people’s welfare beyond politics.
“APC is about more than seeking votes. We care about health, education and the future of Nigerians,” he said.
The national chairman also applauded Governor Kefas for aligning with the APC, stressing that President Tinubu’s development agenda cuts across party lines.
