…As Gov. Inuwa Yahaya Congratulates Winners, Urges Selfless Service
The All Progressives Congress, APC, recorded a clean sweep in the Gombe State local government council elections, winning all chairmanship and councillorship seats contested across the state.
The elections, conducted by the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission, GOSIEC, were held in the state’s 11 local government areas, LGAs, and 13 local council development areas, LCDAs, established by the administration of Gov. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya through an act of the Gombe State House of Assembly.
Announcing the results, GOSIEC Chairman Abdullahi Garba Talasse said the APC won all 11 LGA chairmanship seats, all 13 LCDA chairmanship seats, and all 240 councillorship positions.
Talasse said the APC was the only party that fielded candidates in all 11 LGAs, 13 LCDAs, and 240 councillorship wards. Other parties contested only in selected areas based on their organizational strength and preparedness.
The GOSIEC chairman said the creation of the 13 LCDAs by Gov. Yahaya has expanded the commission’s electoral responsibilities and broadened the state’s democratic space to allow greater grassroots participation and leadership opportunities.
He described the establishment of the LCDAs as a bold initiative that has brought governance closer to the people, enhanced grassroots administration, and created more platforms for political inclusion and community development.
Talasse commended political parties, security agencies, election officials and voters for their peaceful conduct during the process, which he described as orderly and successful.
He also appreciated the chairman and members of the Forum of State Independent Electoral Commissions, FOSIECON, election observers, civil society organizations and other stakeholders for monitoring the exercise and helping to ensure its credibility.
Meanwhile, Gov. Yahaya congratulated all newly elected chairmen and councilors, describing their victory as a clear expression of the electorate’s confidence.
The governor urged the elected officials to see their victory as a call to selfless service, saying the expectations of the people are high and can be met only through transparent, accountable and people-oriented leadership.
He called on them to work closely with their communities, promote unity and inclusiveness, and remain committed to delivering the dividends of democracy at the grassroots, irrespective of political, ethnic or religious affiliations.
Gov. Yahaya assured the new council leaders of his administration’s full support and collaboration, pledging to work with them to accelerate grassroots development, expand access to critical infrastructure and social services, and improve living standards across the state.
He also commended GOSIEC, security agencies, political parties, election officials, observers and the people of Gombe State for the peaceful, orderly and credible conduct of the elections, describing the exercise as another significant milestone in the state’s democratic journey.
