Members of the Jigawa Online Media Chapel on Monday paid a courtesy call on the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Malam Hamisu Muhammad Gumel, at his office in Dutse.
The delegation was led by the Chapel Chairman, Sani Labaran. The purpose of the visit was to build on the existing working relationship between the online media community and the Jigawa State Government.
Speaking during the meeting, Labaran lauded Governor Umar Namadi for his dedication and support in establishing the Jigawa Online Media Chapel.
He described the formation of the Chapel as a landmark achievement that highlights the increasing relevance of digital journalism in Jigawa.
Labaran also recognized the contributions of the Chief Press Secretary and the NUJ Jigawa State Council Chairman, Isma’il Ibrahim Dutse, in making the Chapel a reality.
According to him, both personalities played vital roles in ensuring the successful formation and inauguration of the Chapel.
The Chairman emphasized that online media has become an important channel for sensitizing, educating, and engaging citizens on government policies and programmes.
He therefore appealed to the state government to provide the necessary support to enable members of the Chapel to perform their duties effectively.
Labaran added that with adequate support, the Chapel would serve as a veritable tool for promoting transparency, accountability, and overall development in the state.
In his response, Malam Hamisu Muhammad Gumel thanked the delegation for the visit and assured them of the government’s readiness to work with them.
He reiterated the administration’s commitment to supporting the NUJ and all media outfits in the state, noting that the Online Media Chapel is central to the open-government vision of Governor Umar Namadi.
“We are prepared to support you just as we support other media organizations. Every media platform is vital to this government, and our doors remain open to you,” Gumel said.
The CPS further charged members of the Jigawa Online Media Chapel to maintain professionalism and uphold ethical standards in journalism. He noted that credible reporting would strengthen the media and positively project the image of Jigawa State.
