Bauchi — The Emir of Bununu, Alhaji Jibrin Danlami Hassan, has called on the Bauchi State Government to prosecute teachers who fail to discharge their duties but still collect salaries at the end of every month.
The Emir made the call when officials of the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, and UNICEF paid him an advocacy visit at his palace.
He attributed some of the challenges facing the education sector to the employment of unpatriotic individuals, and urged the government to rethink its recruitment approach to reverse the trend.
The Emir also charged traditional leaders in his emirate to support the state government’s campaign to boost school enrollment.
Alhaji Jibrin Danlami Hassan further enjoined traditional leaders to promptly report cases of school destruction for appropriate action, warning that failure to do so would attract the full wrath of the law.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board, Alhaji Abubakar Isa Baba, said the visit was aimed at seeking the support of traditional leaders in improving enrollment and protecting school facilities from vandalism.
He lamented the recent decline in enrollment, particularly of the girl-child, and the rising cases of destruction of school property across the state.
Alhaji Abubakar Isa Baba pledged the commitment of the state government to providing quality education and instilling good moral conduct in students across Bauchi State
