The Kautal Pulaaku Fulbe Association of Nigeria has condemned what it described as an “orchestrated campaign of calumny” against Senator Shehu Buba Umar, saying the group will no longer remain silent while mischievous elements deploy deceit to bring down a man of proven integrity.
In a statement issued in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Haruna Idris Bayero, the association addressed the Nigerian public, political class, security establishment, and international community over the matter.
THE MAN: A PATRIOT, PEACE BUILDER, AND SERVANT LEADER
The association described Senator Umar as a quintessential patriot whose journey from Nabordo Village in Toro LGA, Bauchi State, to the National Assembly exemplifies the resilience of the Fulani spirit.
It noted that he is a proud Fulani and a devout Muslim whose faith informs his commitment to justice, compassion, and service to all Nigerians regardless of creed or ethnicity.
According to the statement, Senator Umar has consistently championed the cause of the downtrodden and marginalized through policies and legislative interventions aimed at expanding social safety nets, improving healthcare access, and creating economic opportunities.
On security, the association recalled that as former Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Senator Umar championed a non-kinetic approach to ending banditry and insurgency through dialogue, community engagement, and rehabilitation of repentant combatants.
It added that he currently chairs the Senate Committee on Livestock Development, where he champions the modernization of the livestock sector and sustainable solutions to farmers-herders conflicts.
EXPOSING THE TRUE MOTIVE
The association alleged that the individual behind the campaign is not a bona fide representative of the people and only turned against the Senator after a scholarship offer was rejected.
“In an act of uncommon generosity, Senator Umar extended a full scholarship to this individual for formal education at a prestigious institution. However, rather than embrace this opportunity, the individual demanded cash instead for business purposes. When Senator Umar refused to divert resources from the structured educational path, the individual became embittered,” the statement said.
It further alleged that denied his demands, the individual “weaponized ethnic and religious sentiments, manufactured spurious allegations, and sought to tarnish a man who extended nothing but kindness.”
THE AGENDA: FEAR OF DEFEAT
The association claimed the attack was politically motivated, driven by fear of Senator Umar’s growing influence and grassroots support ahead of elections.
“This is a classic strategy: when a son of the soil rises, detractors deploy proxies to concoct allegations and weaponize ethnic and religious sentiments. This is not merely an attack on Senator Umar — it is an attack on the collective aspirations of the Fulani people to participate meaningfully in Nigeria’s political and economic renaissance,” it stated.
OUR REJECTION AND CONDEMNATION
The Kautal Pulaaku Fulbe Association condemned:
1. The malicious campaign against Senator Shehu Buba Umar
2. Politically motivated allegations with ethnic and religious coloration
3. The cynical exploitation of Fulani and Muslim identity
4. The agenda to marginalize Fulani from political decision-making
CALL TO ACTION
The association called on:
1. Security Agencies to investigate the source and sponsors of the blackmail campaign
2. The Media to exercise restraint and uphold journalistic ethics
3. All Nigerians to see the campaign as a distraction from insecurity, poverty, and underdevelopment
4. The Fulani Community to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and united
5. The Muslim Ummah to recognize that Senator Umar’s faith is a source of strength
CONCLUSION
“The Fulani are an integral part of Nigeria. Our contributions to the growth and development of this country are undeniable. We shall not be intimidated. We shall not be silenced. We shall continue to produce great leaders like Senator Shehu Buba Umar,” the statement concluded.
The association vowed to defend the Senator “with every lawful means at our disposal.”
