The Nasarawa Youth Empowerment Agency, NAYEA, says its marshals have arrested about 50 suspected criminals for committing various offences in four local government areas of the state.
The general manager of the agency, Abdullahi Bala, disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.
Mr. Bala said the suspects were apprehended for committing different criminal offences in Wamba, Awe, Keana and Karu local government areas and were handed over to security personnel for prosecution.
According to him, the agency in collaboration with security agencies has recorded tremendous success in its activities toward tackling social vices and criminality in the state.
The general manager said stakeholder meetings he had with the leaders of KASTELEA and KAROTA in Kaduna and Kano states resulted in a recommendation to the state government to review upward the allowance of personnel from 10,000 naira to 30,000 naira as monthly stipend.
He expressed concern over the attitude of some personnel of the agency for not reporting to their duty posts, which, according to him, is a serious setback to the agency’s progress.
Mr. Bala also appealed to stakeholders to continue supporting the agency and to consider the challenges it faces by not entertaining complaints from unserious personnel.
- The general manager, who commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for supporting NAYEA, also appealed to him for maximum support and logistics to enable the agency to continue contributing its quota to tackle security challenges facing some areas of the state.
NAYEA currently has more than 4,500 personnel working across the 13 local government areas of the state.
