The Taraba State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty by CP Edwin Ogbeghagha, psc, mnips, as the 34th Commissioner of Police in the state.
According to a press release signed on Sunday, 7th September, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Victor Mshelizah, and made available to journalists in Jalingo, CP Ogbeghagha took over from CP Moorkwap Sebastian Dongshal, who has proceeded on retirement after a distinguished career in the Nigeria Police Force.
The statement noted that CP Ogbeghagha brings vast professional and operational experience to the command. It added that his assumption of duty marks a renewed commitment to strengthening security, protecting lives and property, and maintaining peace across Taraba State.
Addressing the public, CP Ogbeghagha assured the people of Taraba State of the Command’s resolve to adopt proactive, intelligence-led and community-oriented policing. He pledged to work closely with sister security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders and other critical stakeholders.
He called on the Taraba State Government and members of the public to support the Police with timely and credible information on suspicious activities, assuring that such information would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
The Commissioner also issued a stern warning to criminal elements and their collaborators to desist from crime, stressing that the Command would remain resolute in confronting crime and bringing offenders to justice.
He further reassured residents that their safety and security remain his topmost priority, while urging them to remain law-abiding and security conscious.
