GOMBE — The Gombe State Government has renewed its call for farmers and livestock herders to maintain peaceful coexistence in order to promote sustainable development across the state.
The appeal came as the Sub-Committee on the Implementation of Designated Cattle Routes intensified efforts to safeguard grazing corridors and forest reserves aimed at reducing recurring conflicts between farming and pastoral communities.
Members of the committee, led by Ardo Chindo Abubakar and Musa Suleiman Kumo, visited Jauro Jibir in Bojude District and the Kwalale International Grazing Reserve along Daban Fulani in Kwami Local Government Area to assess compliance with government directives.
Addressing community members during the visit, Ardo Chindo Abubakar said the state government had directed residents to desist from farming within designated grazing reserves.
He explained that the reserves are government-owned facilities established for livestock grazing and must be protected from encroachment.
He added that preserving the grazing corridors would help prevent disputes between farmers and herders while ensuring the effective management of the state’s natural resources.
Earlier, the District Head of Bojude, Alhaji Ibrahim Dan Buram, and the District Head of Daban Fulani, Alhaji Muhammad Seyo, urged residents to support government policies by cooperating fully with the White Paper Implementation Committee.
The traditional rulers also advised their subjects to remain law-abiding and to avoid actions that could tarnish their personal reputation, that of their communities, or their religion.
In a vote of thanks, the Chairman of Kwami Local Government, represented by the Head of the Agriculture Department, Muhammad Ibrahim Bojude, called on the public, particularly farmers and herders, to comply with laws guiding the use of grazing reserves and to continue supporting the committee.
He expressed confidence that sustained collaboration among government, traditional institutions, farmers, and herders would promote lasting peace and boost agricultural and livestock development in Gombe State
